Hong Kong : Culture, Shopping and Nightlife
Some of the team has been to Hong Kong and they say that this city is absolutely incredible. It’s beautiful, cultural and diverse. The location makes it a perfect home-base to jump off and explore the rest of Asia from. Whether you’re going to mainland China or Macau, it’s only a quick ferry or train ride away.
Hong Kong boasts an amazing melding of cultures. British and Chinese cultures are most prevalent due to the fact that this place was taken over by the British forces after the defeat of China in the Opium War of 1842. When you’re in Hong Kong, it feels like you are at the center of a new James Bond movie because of its cultural diversity. In 1997, Hong Kong became a Special Administrative Region of China.
Aside from the bustling city and amazing nightlife, beautiful beaches and nature appear just a shirt ride outside of the city. There are beautiful hikes that lead to an amazing vantage point on Victoria Peak overlooking the harbor. You can also hit the local cultural shops along the ocean at the Stanley Market or visit the famed Temple Street Night Market.
This place is one of our favorites. You should add it to your bucket list and start saving!

Rwanda : Nature and Adventure
When we think of Rwanda we think of lush jungles, wildlife and GORILLAS! Rwanda is a landlocked East African country with a green, mountainous landscape. Its renowned Volcanoes National Park is home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. You can explore Volcanoes National Park through a number of gorilla trekking tour companies. One of our favorites is the sustainable eco-tourism group called Amahoro Tours. Their mission is to support the local community and build on local tourism.
If the jungle and trekking are too much for you, you can check out the Rwanda Lakes. Rwanda Lakes is a beautiful volcanic and freshwater oasis on the countries border with the Congo. You can enjoy beaches, hang gliding and water skiing while you wait for the rest of the crew to get back from a nearby gorilla trek.
You may be thinking, Rwanda has to be HOT! However, the climate in Rwanda is unlike other African countries. Despite its proximity to the equator, the weather is pleasant throughout the year due to its altitude. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t be saving up for a trip to this beautiful African country.
Bogotá, Colombia : Culture and Cuisine
Colombia. We know it gets a bad rap in the news, but Bogotá is a super safe starting point to explore this beautifully diverse country. Bogota is the country’s high-altitude sprawling capital.
La Candelaria, its cobblestoned center, features colonial-era landmarks like the neoclassical performance hall Teatro Colón and the 17th-century Iglesia de San Francisco. It’s a beautiful mixture of colonial meeting modern. This is where most travelers tend to congregate and it’s for good reason! Many bars, hotels, museums and cultural points of interest stem from this town meeting center.
Bogota is home to popular museums including the Museo Botero, showcasing Fernando Botero's art, and the Museo del Oro, displaying pre-Columbian gold pieces. If museums are too slow for your taste, you could always seek out some of the wonderful dining experience in the town center. One of the top choices is the steakhouse, Andrés Carne de Res. If you don’t know what to get, the #1 dish is al trapo, or chargrilled beef tenderloin.
Whether you’re exploring the museums along the cobbled streets of the town center or chowing down in one of the many great restaurants, we highly recommend adding Bogota to your trips list.
